🌿 Hoya polyneura ‘Inner Variegated’ Overview

Hoya polyneura ‘Inner Variegated’ is a rare and highly sought-after form of the “Fishtail Hoya.” This variety features the same distinctive fishtail-shaped leaves with visible veining, but with beautiful cream to yellow variegation in the center of the leaf, bordered by green edges. Its elegant trailing vines make it a favorite among Hoya collectors.

Appearance

  • Narrow leaves shaped like tiny fishtails

  • Distinct dark green vein pattern across the leaf

  • Cream, yellow, or light green variegation in the center

  • Trailing, cascading growth habit

  • Leaves typically 2–4 inches long

☀️ Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light

  • Variegated forms benefit from consistent bright light to maintain color

  • Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch variegated areas

💧 Water

  • Allow soil to dry partially between waterings

  • Does not like to stay soggy

  • Slightly more sensitive to drought than some thicker-leaf Hoyas

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 65–85°F

  • Thrives with higher humidity (50–70%)

  • Avoid temperatures below 55°F

🌱 Soil

  • Requires a chunky, well-draining mix, such as:

    • Potting soil

    • Orchid bark

    • Perlite or pumice

Good airflow around roots helps prevent rot.

🌿 Growth & Care

  • Moderate grower when happy

  • Looks beautiful in hanging baskets or trailing shelves

  • Fertilize lightly in spring and summer

  • Propagates from node cuttings

🐾 Pet Safety

  • Generally considered non-toxic to pets
