🩷🌿 Pink Fittonia – Nerve Plant Overview

Pink Fittonia (Fittonia albivenis), commonly known as the Nerve Plant, is a colorful tropical houseplant loved for its intricate pink-veined foliage. Its petite leaves feature a beautiful network of bright pink to rosy-red veins against a green background, creating an almost hand-painted appearance. Compact and humidity-loving, Pink Fittonia is perfect for terrariums, desktops, fairy gardens, and small decorative planters.

✨ Appearance

  • Small, oval-shaped leaves with a softly textured surface
  • Green foliage covered in an intricate network of pink to rosy-red veins
  • Some varieties develop such heavy pink veining that very little green remains visible
  • Low-growing, spreading growth habit
  • Creates a dense carpet of colorful foliage under ideal conditions
  • May occasionally produce small flower spikes, although the foliage is the main attraction

☀️ Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light
  • Can tolerate moderate indirect light
  • Bright filtered light helps maintain vibrant pink coloration
  • Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch or fade the delicate foliage
  • Very low light may result in stretched growth and less vibrant coloration
  • Grows beautifully under grow lights

💧 Water

  • Keep the soil consistently lightly moist
  • Allow only the very top layer of soil to begin drying before watering
  • Avoid allowing the plant to remain completely dry for extended periods
  • Water thoroughly while allowing excess water to drain
  • Never leave the roots sitting in soggy, waterlogged soil

⚠️ Watering Warning
Pink Fittonia is famously dramatic when it's thirsty. It may suddenly collapse and look like you've somehow killed it in the last six hours. 😂 A thorough watering will often have it standing back up surprisingly quickly—but don't intentionally wait for the dramatic flop before every watering. Repeated severe wilting can stress the plant. Aim for consistently lightly moist soil without keeping it soaking wet.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 65–80°F
  • Loves moderate to high humidity
  • Humidity around 50% or higher is especially beneficial
  • Excellent choice for terrariums and other humid displays
  • Protect from temperatures below 60°F
  • Keep away from cold drafts and heating or cooling vents

🌱 Soil

  • Prefers a light, moisture-retentive but well-draining mix
    • Quality indoor potting soil or coco coir
    • Perlite or pumice
    • Fine orchid bark for additional aeration
  • Soil should hold some moisture without becoming waterlogged

🌿 Growth & Care

  • Moderate grower under ideal conditions
  • Pinch growing tips to encourage a fuller, bushier plant
  • Naturally remains relatively compact
  • Excellent for terrariums, fairy gardens, desktops, and small planters
  • Easily propagated from stem cuttings
  • Fertilize lightly during the active growing season
  • Trim leggy stems as needed to maintain a dense appearance

🐾 Pet Safety

  • Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs
